This time when a fake Pepper tries to kiss Tony, he is good and freaked out. So much so, that he armors up. Ty Stone is trying to become a “god” by gaining followers via giving them what they want. His Pepper is pregnant. In his world, Tony has got Pepper constantly coming on to him.

Bathtime Hallucinations, Part 3
Tony is rescued from his hallucination-world, as images of himself and Pepper in the bath — I’d say “shatter,” but they look more gloopy than glass-like — around him. Ru comments something to the effect of that he looked like he was being electrocuted and enjoying it.
The reason Tony had this hallucination was Ty Stone, a villain who likes to do that to people, I guess. This one is the only Ty Stone story I’ve got, so I don’t really know what his deal is. I also wonder how much influence in the content of the hallucination was Ty’s and how much was Tony’s. Did Ty specifically set out to trap Tony in a happy place with Pepper, or was putting Pepper there what Tony’s mind wanted? Ty is going to attack him with more fake Pepper soon enough.

Tony’s Narration: Wishes are made in the heart. But not mine. Mine died a long time ago, along with hope. Then again…
Tony: PEPPER! I thought…
Pepper: I know.
Tony’s Narration: …maybe there really is a Blue Fairy out there somewhere…granting wishes.
Pepper: Happy and I have split up, Tony. When you revealed your Iron Man identity to the world, I realised anything is possible if we want it badly enough. And, more than anything, I want to be with you. I’ve always loved you. Come back to me.
Echo: Come back to me.
Note #1: This isn’t real and the only place it happened is inside Tony’s little mind.
Note #2: My personal favorite part about this sequence is that smiiile in the last panel. I also love that between this page and yesterday’s page, there were three panels of kissing before Tony bothered to even try and ask what brought this on.

We enter our scene already in progress. It’s late and Pepper is still at the office. Tony decides that only he is allowed to be a workaholic, (“I work for a workaholic,” Pepper explains, “which pretty much makes me a workaholic.”) so Tony walks her to her car.
Tony: Have you ever thought about how close we came…and still managed to miss our chance?
Pepper: On occasion…like, when the sun comes up and you’re still in the lab. If we had “connected”, I’d probably have to get a damned cat—you’d never be home anyway.
Tony: Yes, I would. I’d come home for you.
Pepper: Don’t work all night.
Tony: I’ll try not to.
Pepper: Promise.

Change of plans! I was intending on doing AUs for a while yet, but the computer that I scan to has mysteriously disappeared, so the schedule shall be moving forward. The new theme is Iron Man vol. 3, after which I intend to hit Pepper cameos in other, non-Iron Man books and then head back to the 70’s and 80’s.
Our scene today features Pepper and Rumiko Fujikawa—a longtime girlfriend of Tony’s—in an argument. ”You think you know him so well?” Ru asks. ”You didn’t even know he was in love with you.”
Which leads to the question of, why did Rumiko know Tony was in love with Pepper? Did he feel the need to tell her? Or was it just obvious?

…Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, Pepper Potts kneels before Tony’s creepy phallic tower. For contextual purposes, here’s the narration, as provided by Pepper’s granddaughter:
“The sudden disappearance of Tony Stark caught the entire world by surprise. Speculation ran wild. Had Stark lost his mind? Had he been captured? Killed? A month later, we all learned the truth. Part of it, anyway. Stark was presumed to be inside the monolith, but no one was able to establish contact. Not his board of directors. Not his fellow Avengers. Not his enemies. Not even Pepper. Nobody. Tony Stark had successfully cut himself off from the world.”

Your Moment of Tony and Pepper for March 5, 2011
This is not an alternate universe. To be honest, I don’t really know what this is, but the best term would probably be fantasy sequence. Back in oh, 2000-2001-ish, Pepper was pregnant, but lost the baby after a suicidal villainess beat her in an attempt to get to Tony to kill her in retaliation. It’s a fairly confusing story on the whole, because most people involved behave as though the child is Tony’s for no apparent reason. (Pepper and Happy were together at the time.)
In retrospect, I now consider this page to be the first appearance of Howard Anthony Stark II. Even if he was just a fantasy, a glimpse at what could have been or a future that may yet still be.
