AND THEN THEY SCHOOLED ME. I did not know Hawkgirl ever had her own miniseries. Not only did they inform me of that, but also who wrote and drew it, when it came out, and how many issues there were. They then proceeded to buy up all of our Hawkgirl, some silver age Flash, a bunch of our Batman merch, and then some.

One in particular told me that when she broke her shoulder, she had her physo-therapist put a picture of Hawkgirl up on the high wall so she could reach for it every day, to help her healing. Because, she told me, if Hawkgirl can swing a mace, she can too.

the only appeal to me was the avengers academy kids, and the first issue sufficiently turned me off to the whole idea. but i’m glad you enjoy it!

I think characters like the Avengers Academy kids and Runaways were included for exactly that reason — draw in readers who were already invested in those characters — but the book is largely about a bunch of new or quasi-new characters wandering around the landscape arguing with each other. I vastly prefer it to the more typical “Everyone fights this villain for X number of issues, then everyone fights THAT villain for X number of issues.” There’s very little going on in Arena beyond a bunch of people thrown together in a high stress situation and having their personalities ricochet off each other. The interpersonal drama is pretty great.

Avengers Arena is one of my favorite books that Marvel is currently putting out. It is generally #2 or #3 on my read pile. I have not particularly enjoyed the Runaways or Avengers Academy kids’ roles, but Death Locket, the Braddock Academy kids and Cammi are all AWESOME.

So, today I went to the comic book store and found four Iron Man related things that I had no idea existed and realized just how far I really have slipped in the past few months.

I have really enjoyed everything I have read thus far today, which is nice.

Iron Man has not owned the majority of my brain real estate since I encountered Mr. Darcy, but I think the previous ~~douchebag~~ tenant might be ready to put up a fight.
